How it works

Prepare PNG images for the web with WebP output. Tune the quality, keep transparent areas, and compare the size before downloading. Everything is processed locally in your browser.

  1. 01

    Add your PNG image

Choose a photo, illustration, or transparent graphic from your device. The image is read locally by your browser.

  2. 02

    Fine-tune WebP quality

Adjust the quality setting and inspect the preview. Pay attention to fine text, sharp edges, and textures as you reduce the file size.

  3. 03

    Download the WebP

Save the result for your website or another WebP-compatible workflow. Transparency is retained when your source image contains it.

SMALL TOOL. USEFUL DIFFERENCE.

Why use PNG to WebP?

Useful for web assets

WebP can produce smaller files than PNG for many images. Compare your own result to see whether it is a useful saving for your asset.

Keep transparent areas

Unlike JPG, WebP supports transparency. Your cutout, icon, or illustration can keep its transparent background after conversion.

Choose the detail you need

Adjustable encoding quality helps you balance a compact download with clear visual detail, without changing the original PNG.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Good to know.

Answers before you hit download.

Does PNG to WebP preserve transparency?

Yes. WebP supports an alpha channel, so transparent areas in the PNG can stay transparent in the output. A checkerboard in the preview represents transparency; it is not added to the downloaded file.

Is this a lossless PNG to WebP conversion?

The quality control uses your browser’s WebP encoding and is intended for lossy compression. A high quality setting is not a guarantee of lossless output. Keep your original PNG if you need to preserve its pixels exactly.

What if I need a WebP below a specific size?

Use Compress to Size, select WebP output, and enter your limit in KB or MB. It tries different quality settings and can reduce dimensions when necessary to produce a file at or below the requested cap.
